Salsa dancing is a social activity in which you will have to take others into consideration and often your first impression of a new person is made on the dance floor. The following tips will make your Salsa experience much enjoyable and guarantee to make you popular in the Salsa scene.

How to dress
In our regular classes there is no dress code apart from dressing comfortable.

Ladies' Shoes - Wearing heels will make your Salsa dance position more natural and elegant but make sure your shoes will offer ankle support and are not too high.

Mens' Shoes - Any comfortable shoes, avoid trainers with squeaky soles.

Hygiene Tips
Dancing Salsa will raise your heart rate and you are likely to break a little sweat. If you know that you tend to sweat more please bring a little towel or a spare t-shirt for your Salsa classes. This is not only for your own comfort but to be considerate for others. Carrying a deodorant and mints in your Salsa bag is also a good idea. Nobody wants to dance with a sweaty person with a bad breath!

Leading
Men - Cuban Salsa is all about the ladies so you will have to lead the dance so that the ladies enjoy it. There is a big different in leading and been rough. At Habanaloko Salsa classes we teach you the correct technique to lead.

Ladies - In classes you are learning a set routine and therefore you know what to expect next. But instead of anticipating the next move, let the men lead you. The class is to learn the movements together and men need your help in developing their skills as better leads.

Practise Makes Perfect
In order to learn quicker you need to practise. The best way to practise is to stay in the club after the classes and have a dance. Your new moves will be fresh in the memory and you will have plenty of people to practise with.

If you want to see real fast progress it is also recommended to do Salsa classes more than once a week.

Also, you should not shy away from the Salsa parties as they are a great opportunity to mix with experienced dancers. The atmosphere in the Habanaloko Salsa parties is always friendly and welcoming and there is a Salsa class in the beginning of the night.
