| Background |
Luis Lema was born as Luis Enrique Mosquera Angulo in Buenaventura, Pacific Coast of Colombia. He started singing when he was at school while learning Afro-Colombian folklore.
At the age of 14 Luis Lema became the youngest director and choreographer of traditional dances in his native town, Buenaventura. He participated in several singing contest winning Festival de Saneros in Cali, Colombian capital for Salsa. Eventually he became a lead singer of Grupo Bahia which is a well known folk formation in the Pacific Coast of Colombia.
He came to England with the group in 1995 to play at the La Gran Fiesta alongside the famous group Los Van Van from Cuba. Since settling in London Luis Lema formed an orchestra called Bombele. The name was inspired by the 'Queen of Salsa', Celia Cruz, which is his favourite artist.
The band has integrated experienced and talented musicians to create the best groove and they have gained popularity in the Latin scene performing in the UK and Europe. |
